Through Continued Work with ALL IN, We Cast a Wider Net of Awareness
This year, ProLiteracy continued to share its voice as a member of the Adult Literacy and Learning Impact Network (ALL IN). This collective was brought together to implement the National Action Plan for Adult Literacy, and we have been active participants in advocacy and research efforts. Our unique insight into adult literacy and education has helped shape the messaging around how the ability to read and improving literacy rates among adults impacts every aspect of a person’s life.
As part of the push for adult literacy, we went to Washington, D.C., to participate in a bipartisan Senate briefing to increase support and engagement among policymakers. At the briefing, the ALL IN collective made the link between literacy and economic mobility.
ALL IN further pushed the conversation forward by commissioning a survey with FTI Consulting that examined how aware frontline employers and policymakers are of the low literacy issue and how they are responding to the need. ProLiteracy amplified the findings in an article that was included in a national Future of Work campaign, distributed as a special insert in USA Today and promoted online.
Our continued efforts with ALL IN and the other 13 participating organizations help strengthen our ability to raise awareness and understanding about the importance of low adult literacy through unified messaging.
“Working with ALL IN allows us to have a larger and louder voice,” said ProLiteracy President and CEO Mark Vineis. “It increases our ability to impact communities nationwide and help those stuck in cycles of poverty and social injustices because of low literacy. Awareness is key to improving access to adult education, which is a must, because when every adult is literate, we are stronger as a whole.”
