Ruth Colvin, co-founder of ProLiteracy and founder of Literacy Volunteers of America (LVA), will celebrate her 100th birthday on December 16. Ruth’s special wish this year is for every adult learner to have access to the best-trained tutors.
“Our students are very important to us—they have reached out and asked for our help. This is often a last chance for them. They need tutors who are not only compassionate and willing to help, but tutors who are well trained. Adult learners face so many challenges; access to trained tutors shouldn’t be one of them.” – Ruth Colvin

Help us grant Ruth's 100th birthday wish.
For more than 60 years, ProLiteracy and its founding organizations have worked to empower and create options for low-level learners by building the capabilities of the literacy service providers who assist them. Last year, ProLiteracy’s national network of literacy providers served 245,000 students who wanted to make better lives for themselves and their families. But, more trained tutors are needed to assist the millions of adults that still need help improving their literacy and English language skills.
Please help make Ruth’s 100th birthday wish come true, and consider making a gift to support the next generation of learners and the literacy champions who will serve them.
