Adult Educators Gain Fresh Perspectives at ProLiteracy Conference in San Antonio
Every two years, we get the incredible opportunity to welcome adult literacy practitioners to our Conference on Adult Education for three days of professional learning, networking, and celebrating achievements within the field.
Attendees like Literacy Volunteers Winchester Area Executive Director Andy Gail wasted no time immersing themselves in over 100 workshops, special sessions, panel discussions, social activities, and receptions. Ideas flowed freely and new connections meant practitioners returned to their programs with a larger network to access support.
“My team is all new since I entered this role three years ago. Having peers that we can call, share ideas, and get advice from is so important.”
This was Andy’s first time attending our conference. As a new executive director at LVWA, he saw it as an opportunity for him and his team to learn from others who are working directly in the field and gain insights about how to make the most impact in their community.
Returning to Virginia, Andy and his team restructured LVWA’s class cycle and re-examined its curriculum.
“There were tracks and conversations that were perfect for me as the ED, as well as our program team,” he said. “We were able to divide and conquer, all going to different breakouts and comparing notes and sharing after.”
We are beginning preparations for our next Conference on Adult Literacy experience, planned for October 6–9, 2024, in Baltimore, MD.
