ProLiteracy Joins ALL IN to Implement National Action Plan for Adult Literacy
This year, ProLiteracy stepped up our efforts to influence systematic change as a founding member of the Adult Literacy and Learning Impact Network (ALL IN), a collective effort of key stakeholders and leaders in the field charged with implementing the National Action Plan for Adult Literacy.
Along with representatives from 13 other national organizations, including the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, the American Library Association, World Education, and more, ProLiteracy President and CEO Mark Vineis attended a Summit on Adult Literacy at Sunnylands estate in Rancho Mirage, CA. There, the group convened to map out actions to ensure any adult, anywhere, has unrestricted access to high-quality support.
Since the initial summit, ProLiteracy has joined the collective to help launch a bipartisan U.S. Senate Caucus on Adult Literacy, bringing the issue of low literacy and the cost it imposes on America to the main stage. Chaired by Senators Jack Reed (RI) and Susan Collins (ME), the caucus raises awareness of the multigenerational nature of low literacy and the need for action at the federal and state levels.
“As a member of ALL IN, we are committed to the task at hand,” Vineis said. “Too many adults are stuck in a cycle of poverty and missed opportunities. Every adult has the right to access literacy and to open the doors to family-sustaining wages, self-dignity, and better futures.”
